In 1994 Wilson began a three year run being recognized as Downbeat’s Jazz Vocalist of the Year. It’s no surprise that “Blue Light ‘Til Dawn” helped light the fuse for those successive awards. Robert Johnson would most likely sell his soul again after hearing this smokey version. In 1994 RS reviewer John Milward wrote that Brandon Ross’ arrangements are “true to the original composition and flexible enough to accommodate the singer’s expansive vocals.” In other words, a perfect combination.
