In spite being told “you can’t get far on thirty-seven dollars and a Jap guitar” Steve Earle succeeded on his own terms. His big guitar sound and highway worn lyrics harken back to what country music once was…but with a more rockin’ beat. It’s not hard to visualize Earle thumbing a ride on Route 66, his guitar strapped to his back, and spanking road dust from his jeans. He can be credited along with a small group of artists that revived Country music from the sanitized sound that Nashville was manufacturing in the 80′s. Listen up! This is a town worth visiting.
